For your sins, you have reached my personal web page. I work at ULCC as a system administrator in the Computing Services Group. My job title would seem to be "Unix Consultant" or even "Senior Systems Consultant" which sounds much more impressive.
My particular skills seem to be installing Operating systems and adding the apparently never ending stream of patches that emanate from Sun and SGI. I also keep a close eye on what's happening on the ULCC systems. This used to be quite rewarding in that I sometimes got the chance to go and shout at some poor unsuspecting applications programmer who thought that the system was for their own, exclusive, personal use. Now, of course, all our applications programmers have left, so I just have to shout at passing pigeons instead.
If you want to find out more about what ULCC does check out our home page. Currently, I know that I'll still be at ULCC for a while yet (what have I done to deserve this?).
It has been observed that when I'm on leave, I'm still likely to be working from home. Here is a picture of me in my computer room slaving over a hot Pentium. I live in the small town of Flitwick in Bedfordshire. In the good old days before commuting arrived it was somewhat smaller and rustic. Here are a couple of pictures of what it was like in the past.
One of my interests is Formula 1 motor racing. In 1998 I was fortunate enough to spend a day at TAG McLaren having a tour of their facilities - impressive would be an understatement ! Here is a picture of me taken with the MP4-13 - their 1998 car. This was arranged via one of their sponsors - Sun Microsystems. Later in 1998, thanks to Informix this time, I went to the Benetton F1 facility for the day.
Although I often still keep in touch with work when I'm supposed to be on leave, there are exceptions. Follow this link to see what I did in the autumn of 1999 and the awful consequences of what followed !
Now, following on from this was my 50th birthday. This looks like it might have consequences as well. Follow this link to see what happened this time !
A far less glamorous activity I've been introduced to is Ten Pin bowling - read the gory details.
